Description – Director of Sustainability - CDU

We are currently seeking a passionate and strategic Director -Sustainability who will be at the forefront of our sustainability initiatives, driving our commitment to environmentally responsible practices across all developments.
The role requires an international professional who will establish and lead a small but high-powered sustainability team, providing input to and communication with the Development and Projects teams, Corporate functions, partners and stakeholders as required, to achieve excellence in design and the Qiddiya corporate objectives and vision.
This role supports standards of behaviors with the appropriate context and culture for the successful implementation of the corporate objectives and will represent Qiddiya at internal and external events.
Responsibilities
· Review and develop a Sustainability Strategy with a clear road map over 3 years.
· Work closely with corporate functions to ensure standards and processes meet the wider Qiddiya sustainability standards for quality, design, innovation, coordination and integration, technical documentation and budget.
· Proactively participate in weekly departmental management meetings ensuring the relevant parts of the agenda, minutes and actions are recorded, resourced and implemented, with subject matter expertise responsibilities.
· Provide input to the development and implementation of the corporate programmes, continuous improvement and lessons learned.
· Contribute to the preparation of consultant procurement documentation, standards, codes and City frameworks and coordinate with all relevant parties.
· Contribute to project reviews of key assets at all stage gates, checking project deliverables for accuracy and completeness, ensuring the deliverables meet requirements, corporate standards and industry best practice standards, including emerging technologies and future-ready initiatives.
· Provide quality control reviews and coordinate feedback and comments ensuring the information aligns with all activities.
· Contribute to the enhancement and application of knowledge of the Development teams including external and specialist consultants and partners.
· Ensure design brief compliance, completeness and accuracy of all required procurement deliverables prior to issue to consultants.
· Contribute to the Value Engineering of technical and value+ solutions.
· Ensure effective communications of sustainability with the site teams and specifically the relevant coordination of design reports, shop drawings, warranties, certifications, safety, quality control mock-ups and materials samples to ensure the site installed systems match the performance and design intent.
· Drive quality through the Qiddiya QM QA-QC processes.
· Support departmental and corporate processes and strategies to improve the effective multidisciplinary coordination of sustainability initiatives and digital model interfaces.
· Manage and maintain the corporate sustainability strategies and review all Project and Development departments’ sustainability information.
· Proactively support innovative business solutions and processes through research, analysis and development in collaboration with the wider organization.
· Develop and support standardised procedures to achieve delivery excellence.
· Collaborate and communicate clearly and concisely with colleagues, contractors, supply chain and stakeholders with accomplished influencing and negotiation skills to resolve critical and sometimes conflicting issues or requirements.
· Rigorously challenge teams across all departments and disciplines to drive performance and efficiency for key sustainability targets and requirements.
· Proactively identify and support the mitigation of commercial risks.

Requirements
· Proficiency or working knowledge in softwares related to environmental design, carbon emissions in asset operation and materials embodied carbon and the interrelationships thereof.
· Management and expert level working knowledge of LEED and it’s sub-sets (eg SITES and WELL).
· Presentation softwares, Adobe suite Excel, INDesign and PPT.
· Experience of working in the Middle East or on Middle East major projects advantage.
· Accomplished leadership and technical experience with a full understanding of the RIBA Work Stages.
· Delivery focussed with attention to detail.
· Demonstrates real-world problem solving skills with innovative and lateral thinking, identifying and resolving risks through effective management.
· Track record of excellence in presentation skills.
· Experience and knowledge of sustainable design principles including passive design as well as established and emerging Smart building and infrastructure technologies.
· Working knowledge of Fire & Life Safety (FLS) principles.
· Proficient in the research and implementation of relevant innovative low carbon technologies.
· Demonstrates a highly organised and systematic approach to delivery tasks with relevant project management processes.
· Constantly seeks to streamline processes and procedures to increase quality and efficiency.
· Excellent time management skills.
· Previous background in creating a culture of empowerment and where others share knowledge, insights and learning.
· Demonstrates a good understanding of commercial decision making and risk management.
Qualifications
20+ years of sustainability related roles for major projects with international experience of multidisciplinary teams.
Degree (preferred masters) in related subject
Professionally registered with an internationally recognised authority.
Sustainability certification (LEED or equivalent) an advantage.
