Visionary Tech Services (VTS) is seeking a Trading Value Chain Optimisation Business Analyst / SME to lead the development of structured decision-making workflows across the trading lifecycle. This role will focus on enhancing portfolio optimisation, logistics, freight and storage strategy, pricing insights, and risk governance, while aligning closely with upstream/downstream planning for integrated value delivery.

The specialist will help unlock enterprise value under real-world constraints and volatile market conditions through scenario-driven planning, rigorous economic analysis, and embedded decision frameworks.

Background:

You should bring deep expertise in:

  • Trading operations: crude and product flows, logistics, pricing, crack spreads
  • Storage and demurrage economics
  • P&L metrics, exposure management, and risk governance
  • Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) processes
  • Cross-functional process integration with planning, finance, and operations
  • Scenario-based planning and decision enablement under uncertainty

  • Discover & Define:
    • Lead workshops with Trading, Risk, and Operations teams
    • Map current-state workflows
    • Capture detailed business requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria aligned with enterprise KPIs
  • KPIs & Scenarios:
    • Define KPI trees, risk metrics, P&L breakdowns, and exposure limits
    • Frame scenarios and sensitivities
    • Build structured decision rules and playbooks
  • Pilot & Validate:
    • Coordinate and run simulation scenarios
    • Lead User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
    • Track financial benefits and value uplift
  • Integrate & Govern:
    • Integrate scenario management into enterprise planning tools and data hubs
    • Embed scenario orchestration and decision flows using Business Process Management (BPM) frameworks
  • Prioritise & Align:
    • Manage and maintain the optimisation backlog
    • Drive consensus on architecture (build-vs-buy)
    • Align Trading, Risk, Finance, and Ops teams around roadmap, guardrails, and governance

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in:
    • Operations Research
    • Financial Engineering
    • Economics
    • Industrial Engineering
    • Or a related quantitative discipline

Technical Skills / Tech Stack:

  • Core Tools:
    • Optimisation & modelling software (e.g., LP/MIP solvers, decision modelling tools)
    • Data platforms (e.g., data lakes, trading data systems)
    • Visualisation and workflow orchestration tools (e.g., BPM tools, dashboards)

Functional Experience:

  • Expertise in trading value chains: crude/product pricing, optionality, logistics
  • Experience with P&L reporting, exposure limits, and risk trees
  • Proven ability to run scenario planning and stress testing
  • Skilled in defining constraints, business policies, and operational rules
  • Capable of designing and tracking plan-vs-actual KPIs and benefits
