The Opportunity

The Fiberline Assistant Operations Manager is responsible and accountable for all Virgin, Wastewater Treatment, and Recycle Pulping operations, personnel, safety, environmental impact, cost center, quality and production efforts. Assists in managing the department to produce quality products in a safe, productive, and cost-efficient manner. This position reports directly to the Fiberline Operations Manager. In addition, Shift Supervisors (4), and area Training Coordinator report indirectly through the Assistant Operation Manager.

How You Will Impact Westrock

  • Manages and monitors area safety activities.
  • Review of production and quality results on a daily basis.
  • Manage production resources and interface with other departments to maintain efficient mill operations.
  • Participation in the mill production meetings, reporting on safety, quality, productivity, and environmental concerns.
  • Ensures proper company/ union relations according to current labor contract.
  • Develops and manages operational and capital budget plans. Works with department supervisors and engineers to establish priorities.
  • Work with Productivity teams to improve area\mill productivity.
  • Actively promotes and participates in all elements of the Mill’s safety program.
  • Understands and enforces Mahrt safety policies and procedures; ensuring that all department personnel are aware of and adhere to safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensures timely completion accident/incident investigation on all events occurring in Pulp\Recycle/Waste Water Treatment Operational areas.
  • Performs departmental housekeeping and safety related inspections. Ensures any deficiencies noted are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Ensures departmental compliance with OSHA Batch Digester Overpressurization Directives.
  • Understands his/her role with respect to WestRock Quality Policies and applies these principles daily.
  • Ensures area operations are in compliance with ISO program.
  • Proactive communications with internal customers on area product quality(pulp\liquor urpentine).
  • Performs as area maintenance validator.
  • Efficiently plan scheduled area outages to maximize total mill safety, costs, and productivity.
  • Understand and abide by environmental policies established by WestRock, and State and Federal environmental laws.
  • Report on any environmental excursions.
  • Responsible for performance management of department, including instruction/coaching and conducting performance review.

What You Need To Succeed

  • A college degree is strongly recommended or a minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in Fiberline related position.
  • General understanding of mill wide operations and interdependency.
  • Understanding the WestRock Quality Policy and Environmental Policy.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Must be able to clearly define objectives and be effective in involving other in achievement of those objectives.
  • Must be dedicated to continuous improvements in the Fiberline department with special emphasis on safety, quality, environment, production, and cost.
  • Available, as needed, outside of normal working hours if department of mill issues arise.
  • Call duty required.
  • Proficient in all computer applications.
  • Operating experience is a plus.
  • Other Duties as Assigned
  • Conduct safe, successful annual outages and scheduled startups within the Pulp\Recycle\Waste Water Treatment operational area.
  • Must be able to step in and operate if the need arises.
  • Must be able to fill all salaried position vacancies in the fiberline area.
  • Strong trouble shooting is a must.
  • Discipline employees when needed.
  • Participate in monthly safety meetings.
  • Lead core team meetings.
  • Work with maintenance to ensure great reliability and runability.
