The department requires the candidate to take the Public Safety Self Assessment (PSSA) Parts 1 & 2. You can access these through your candidate account. NTN suggests completing the PSSA as soon as possible so there is not a delay in your process.

You will need to establish an account with NTN. A fee is required to take the Frontline National Examination. Candidates with demonstrated financial hardship may submit a request to have the fee waived prior to test registration.

There are three components to the Frontline National Examination:

  • a video-based human relations test,
  • a reading ability test,
  • and a written language ability test.

Testing takes approximately 2 1/2 hours. Upon completion of the testing period, the Denver Civil Service Commission will review candidate test scores and notify those who are eligible to continue with processing. The Denver Civil Service Commission will also notify candidates who are not eligible to continue at this time.

Please note that the NTN website provides a description of the test components and directions for scheduling a test for the City and County of Denver. The website offers a practice test for an optional purchase with sample items.

The Civil Service Commission will periodically pull eligibility lists and may close the posting at any time based on the department's hiring needs. NTN testing will be continuously available and once this posting closes a new 2024 Denver Police Academy posting will be available.
